When you get off the boat, you arrive at a city bustled of commercial trade. Fruits, potatoes, tomatoes, cheese and all the goods of God are available for you.
Since the Aegean Sea is always stormy, the island of Naxos has sea sides which even in a stormy weather stay calm and safe. In order to have an intimate knowledge of Naxos, you have to “come round”.
The island of Naxos appears to be on Eastward of island Paros. It has a round figure, and has a dimension of 430 square kilometers, and up to 148 kilometers sea side.
The Western coast of Naxos is more valuable. A high mountain chain crosses over the island from North to South.
The islands ground is prosperous and produces dry goods, olive oil, vegetables and wine.
There is animal husbandry and agricultural/farm produce. However the main source of richness is the famous Naxos marbles, the potatoes and the poulrty.
With “Kapodistrias” program, there was a configuration of two large municipalities in Naxos: municipality of Naxos and municipality of Drimalias.

Naxos has a mild climate. Winter is cold but not particular heavy.
Summer is enough hot, but the etesian winds provide a cool atmosphere.
In formerly geological era, Naxos was conjoint with the rest islands of Kiklades in a solid land.  
Later, the sea level raised and Naxos converted into an island.
Naxos is the biggest island of Kiklades. It has massifs and when the horizon is clear enough, you can see the top of the mountain Za (the highest mountain of Kiklades 1004 mts hight).
It was covered by thick forests in which many aninmals and birds were living. These forests were preserved until middle ages.
Today, big efforts are taking place in order to protect the environment. A proof of it, is the constructions in Apiranthos mountain village, with the initiative of the mayor Manolis Glezos.
Small barriers keep the rain waters whereas the traditional  caltivations were amended and started again as old times.
